Common Council to vote on offers to acquire land for new library

Appleton, WI (June 12, 2015) – The Common Council will hold a special session Wednesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. at City Hall to vote on offers to purchase two properties for the proposed new downtown library.

The City has agreements in principal in place to acquire the properties of Fox Banquets Rivertyme Catering and Trinity Lutheran Church.

At the special meeting, the council will vote on whether to authorize the City to formally make the offers to purchase the properties. The negotiated prices for both properties are well within the amount set forth in the 2015 budget to acquire land for a new library.

Attorney H. Stanley Riffle, a Waukesha based municipal attorney and Waukesha County Condemnation Commissioner who specializes in municipal land negotiations, has assisted City staff in the negotiations. Attorney Riffle will present the information on the purchase agreements to the council at the meeting.

There will also be an opportunity for public input at the meeting for anyone wishing to speak about the project. Questions and comments can also be directed to the Alderpersons and City staff prior to the meeting.

The council action brings to a close the nearly year-long process of appraisals and negotiations.
